We've been involved in a number of different projects over the years and we love collaboarative work.
In 2012 our Gyoko Youth Taiko teamed up with Grimsby's Fusion Youth Theatre to and MAPAS Youth Music Groups Eclectic Strings and Simply Strings to stage a huge spectacle production of the Nutcracker, with Taiko drums accompanying a very modern Mouse King fight scene!
Then in 2013 we worked in partnership with Calderdale Theatre School to produce a number of Taiko pieces for their production of the Monkey King, we taught many members of their youth group how to play Taiko. Then our Gyoko Taiko Warriors joined forces with Fusion Youth Theatre yet again as well as writer Josie Anne Gray to create an adaptation of the Japanese folk tale, Tokoyo. The production featured a number of new Taiko drumming pieces and won several awards including Best Production at the regional youth theatre festival.
We currently have a number of brand new projects in development.
FOLLOW THE FISHING is an Obon dance inspired community project in partnership with Taiko Journey and N E Lincs Music Education Hub.
Our new WORLD MUSIC programme has recently seen a successful pilot run in local schools introducing children to music from all over the world in an interactive performance experience.
THIRTEEN MOONS is a new piece of work we will be developing with writer Josie Anne Gray incorporating the spoken word and atmospheric drumming using Haiku as inspiration.
If you have a project you would like us to be involved in then get in touch! We are excited to explore new ways of working and to create new partnerships.
