coritani
Coritani is an all female Taiko performance group and is Humber Taiko's main professional performance team. Featuring Humber Taiko founders Lisa Oliver and Emma Middleton, Coritani offer special school performances and also appear at events and festivals.
The group's first big project was working on a theatrical Haiku poetry, music and Taiko performance called Thirteen Moons by Josie Moon, this specially commissioned project was part of Fusion Creative's 'Look Up' festival, funded by the Arts Council England. The group then went on to perform at the European Taiko Conferences as well as Taiko Spirit in Switzerland and KionSai in Germany.
Coritani is named after the Iron Age tribe which lived in the Lincolnshire and Leceister area of the UK. While there are other interpretations of the tribal name, Coritani has been used and referred to by many other local organisations and also has the Japanese translation 'Ice Valley'.
